I got the swirly Asian print way back in 2000. I remember that because I stopped at a quilt shop the weekend I went to an out-of-state wedding. I thought it would be good for a jacket. Over the years I'd take it off the shelf and think about using it (though the idea of a jacket was long gone). I just couldn't cut it up so I used it in its entirety. (The other green print on the right came from the birthday bash stash. The one at the bottom was ... read more

Rabbit, rabbit -- all decked out for Mardi Gras!
I didn't get photos of the wonderful Mardi Gras-themed centerpieces at yesterday's Zion Woman's Club meeting. It was our club's turn for reciprocity when we invite representatives from other clubs in the district to join us. We had five guests and we welcomed a new member. The luncheon was lasagna, salad, and bread sticks from the local bakery/caterer, with Mardi Gras-frosted cookies for dessert.

On Monday we enjoyed revisiting Lyons Woods for the 2021 Hike Lake County Challenge. Tuesday was too hot and humid to do more than run errands -- 95 temp and heat index of 105. When I sat out on the shady patio later in the afternoon a front came through with clouds and wind gusts. Quite dramatic! I came inside before it began to rain. We got about an inch -- so badly needed.
Rose hips, gray dogwood, a burl.
Joe Pye weed, sawtooth sunflower, evening primrose. Hedge bindweed, rudbeckia (Black-eyed Susan), field thistle. Woodland sunflower, whole-leaf rosinweed, another woodland sunflower.
Not only better, but also bigger. Note that I made a new block to replace the upper left checkerboard so it's more balanced, as well.
So of course now is a great time to start a new project? I should be working on all the UFO's but for right now this is fast and easy. I also found out I do not have many dark fabrics......I wanted this to look different from what I usually do with light, bright, happy colors. Maybe this is a reflection of the times?
This is the state of my sewing room, last week. It looks much more chaotic right now! I am using a lot of big prints that can be hard to work with in a ... read more
I love red and green applique quilts. No matter what that will never change!
I have not done a big applique project in a long time. I am now making one with 9, 30" blocks for my bed. It will also have an applique border, she says with conviction! Let's see if that comes true.
I am using the freezer paper method, mostly because I want the circles and flowers to be exact. If they are not, it will drive me crazy. Usually I am not so worried but for this one I will be.
So I fused 2 ... read more
